Master the Difficulties of Urban Landscape Drawing!

In this drawing urban landscape course you will be guided through a series of hand picked topics in order to help you understand the difficulties and how to overcome them. Each week challenge yourself with a new topic focused on this style of drawing and have weekly demonstrations taking you step by step through the process helping you achieve your goals.

Course Outline

Week 1 – 24th August: Point Perspective Street Scene with Watercolours
This week learn how to incorporate depth and distance to a flat surface. This is a key skill when drawing urban landscapes and gives your drawing a sense of depth and space. Jaclyn will give a demonstration before giving you the task of creating your own scene.

Week 2 – 31st August: Point Perspective Scene with Watercolours
Following on from what you learned in week 1, jaclyn will demonstrate how to incorporate the idea of perspective into everyday scenes that we come across. You will expand on the techniques you have acquired and see drawing scenes in a new way.

Week 3 – 07th September: Monochrome studies
Urban landscapes can create a dramatic scene even when using just the one colour. Through step by step demonstration Jaclyn will show you how to create an urban scene using just the one colour. Learn how depth, shade and definition can be achieved by applying just a little more attention to detail.

Week 414th September: Painting Bricks and Textures
Urban landscapes are all about texture. Every street scene has different material, colours and finishes so to truly achieve a successful urban scene you need to understand how to approach this challenge. You will be shown how to approach this task and given tips and techniques on how to create texture to differentiate your buildings from one another.

Week 521st September: Wet on Wet Interior Painting
For this session we take a look inside to see how we can create interior scenes. Using the wet on wet technique along with some of the previous weeks techniques you can create detailed drawings and paintings full of detail.

Week 628th September: Rainy Day Street Scene & Adding People
A scene we see all too often! Learn how to capture this common scene with a step by step demonstration from Jaclyn. You will be shown how to incorporate tone and atmosphere into your work in order to really achieve a successful rainy street scene.

Impress your friends and family with your very own exhibition at the end the course.

What you’ll learn:

  • The basic skills, techniques and methods of sketching and drawing urban landscapes.
  • The confidence to develop your drawing skills at a pace that suits you
  • Tips on how to approach different subjects and scenes you want to capture.

Jaclyn Stuart is an artist who works in St Andrews Scotland. She graduated from Grays School of Art with a BA Hons in Fine Art in 2000. She has taught art in many establishments including lecturing in Further Education. She now runs her own teaching business in St Andrews along with making and selling her own artwork. She works in watercolour, acrylics, oils and inks.
