Acrylic painting is the most versatile and exciting medium for beginner painters!

First made in the 1950s acrylic paint uses a synthetic resin to bind pigments. As it can be diluted with water and used thinly or thickly depending on how much water is added to it, it can resemble a watercolor or an oil painting. It is very popular medium thanks to its fast drying quality and versality.

Your Tutor

Douglas Matthews is a graduate of Glasgow School of Art (Drawing & Painting) and has been teaching art to adults and secondary school pupils both in the UK and the Middle East since he graduated. For 16 years he was the water colour tutor at the Holyrood Art Club in Edinburgh and has run private painting groups at his home since his return to Scotland in 2000.
