Watercolour still life
In this course, you will discover the joy of painting still-life objects with watercolour. You will learn a variety of techniques to create texture like rust, fabric folds, see-through objects like a wine bottle, and paint juicy fruit.
Week 1 and 2: you will learn sample techniques in the context of still life. These will include wax resist, salt, sponge, clingfilm, and masking fluid.
Week 3: Creating a still life using composition
week 4: drawing the still life
week 5 and 6: painting the still life using the techniques we have learned
What you’ll need:
To join this 6-week course, our tutor suggests that you have the following materials.
- a set of watercolour paints and brushes
- palette, kitchen roll
- drawing board
- masking tape
- pencil & rubber
- sharpener
- still life objects and fabric
- a white tealight candle
- rock salt and table salt
- masking fluid
- clingfilm
- watercolour sponge
Your Tutor
Jaclyn Stuart is an artist who works in St Andrews Scotland. She graduated from Grays School of Art with a BA Hons in Fine Art in 2000. She has taught art in many establishments including lecturing in Further Education. She now runs her own teaching business in St Andrews along with making and selling her artwork. She works in watercolours, acrylics, oils, and inks.
